Parents Visit

This weekend my mom and dad came and we all went out to eat at Applebees (the kids’ favorite place). Afterwards they came back to our house and hung out for a little while. On the way back I showed them one of the Hudson neighborhoods we are looking at buying a home in. Dad borrowed my Snake Charmer Costume to wear to the Make A Wish Foundation Halloween party (so that’s 2 wears for sure we are going to get out of it). I think I’ll wear it tomorrow when all the kids in the neighborhood go trick or treating. They got to see my finished tile project and luckily they weren’t able to spot the patched area. They also got to see my sit/stand desk. The kids loved getting to see Grandma and Grandpa too!

Dem. Debate Tonight

Another democratic debate is tonight on CNBC or MSNBC. I’m looking forward to it. I missed the last GOP debate so this one I already have programmed into the tivo. Should be fun to watch Edwards and Obama try to move up against Hillary. I haven’t picked my favorite yet.

Work laptop keeps crashing

I think it is overheating. I called the help desk and they said I can send it in and get a loaner machine while they look into it. I’m not sure if I want to do – seems like a pain to mail it around. I heard they send you the box to use for mailing but who knows.

For now I have a small fan pointed at it and that seems to be working. I also diddled with the power settings to try to make it generate less heat.

Dirty Jobs

There is this show on Discovery where a guy goes around and does the dirtiest jobs for a day. I’ve seen him do some pretty nasty stuff. The one I saw yesterday had him doing field maintenance for a AAA baseball team. He had to drag a fence around the dirt of the field to make it look nice, clean the teams uniforms, scrape dirt off their shoes, sweep the dugout, etc. This show is always a good time. I don’t have it on my Tivo but I do like it when nothing else is on.

Dirty Sexy Money

I’ve been watching this show since it started. It is OK. I’m still not sure if I’m going to keep watching it but until something else takes it’s spot I will. The show is about a guy who’s father dies and he takes over as attorney for a super rich family. He is looking into how his father died while he deals with the crazy rich family and their affairs. I like it a little but I’m not sure it is going to hold my attention. It is no 24 or Til Death. For now it will do.

Getting Out More Lately

Lately I’ve been getting out more. I’ve been visiting my friends Scott and Bret every couple weeks. Nothing special – just some food and TV or pool. I noticed that since I work from home and live at home and rarely have any reason to leave home that I was starting to feel isolated and a little depressed. Having a get together every week or two with friends has done the trick I think. I’m feeling much happier and it is cool to see your friends now and again. Soon, I’ll try to get Ryan in the mix too. Old friends are good to have!

Goodwill

Yesterday I dropped a bunch of stuff off at Goodwill. Since my sister gave us her plastic ware D decided to give our old stuff away. We had a couple hefty bags of kids clothes and a bunch of miscellaneous toys to give away as well. I find that I have to keep on top of it or it piles up pretty fast. I end up making a quarterly trip to Goodwill but it keeps our house from looking like a storage garage.

Tile Project Done

It took way longer than it should have. I grouted two times more than I should have. It is finally done! The tile looks good. The grout matches very well (we ended up using the grout color that Bret picked out). D and I were both wrong on our color selections. I nailed the baseboard wood back on. Now we just have to clean the floors and it is all done. Yippee!

Pushing Daisies

I’ve watched a couple episodes of this show now and I think I’m ready to give up. I like the actors and the gist of the story but the nature of the telling is what bothers me. I don’t like the narrator or the fairytale like aspects. D has watched both shows with me and has the same complaints. She is ready to give up. I think I might give it one more episode. I want to like it but the narration is very annoying for me. Too bad .. I thought the premise was good.

Got New Halloween Costume

I got my new costume today for the Halloween party at my brother-in-law’s house. The Sumo wrestler wasn’t very good. It was too deflated and just didn’t look anything like the picture. I returned it and ended up getting this costume. It doesn’t seem to be very kid friendly but it could be. The snake isn’t attached to the pants so it would work if I had a basket to put the snake in.

Sadly, I just noticed that the price has dropped on the site that I purchased from.

D is happy with it and her costume so that counts for something.
