America’s Got Talent
Man, I hate that show. I watched it for a few minutes tonight again and saw a couple of reasonably talented people perform. Still, that show drives me crazy. Springer as a host, Hoff and Sharon Osborn as judges, all annoying. I just don’t understand how shows like this one survive and other shows like Studio 60 get canned after a season. I was not entertained.
Visited The In-Laws
This weekend we went and visited D’s parents house. The kids had fun running around with their cousins. Dave and Vick were there. Vicky has lost 100 lbs so far since the gastric bypass surgery. It is noticeable. Tiff is small now since she had her bypass surgery. I think she is down to ~160 lbs. So far those surgeries are 2 for 3 in her family in terms of losing weight.
Toni is still in bed. She knows she needs to get out of bed and back into the wheelchair but she is scared of it. Also, it is hard for her dad and Tiff to get her up. I think they are scared too.
Still Running … And Sitting Today
I’m still running. Today I ran 2.25 miles and walked .75 miles. That felt good. Today I’m also sitting in a chair at my desk again. It is lunch and I feel OK so far. I’m getting better (knock on wood).
So You Think You Can Dance
Last night they cut into the top 10 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel seemed apologetic (but not too much) for the anti war choreography of Wade Robson. Whatever. The show was good and the results show dragged on. I’m a Lacey fan…big surprise there, given how hot she is. It is getting hard to cut people now so I’m sure people will be in for some disappointments from here on out. This show is still very entertaining to me.
Bad Sleep
Sometimes I think the kids are plotting against us. Last night was one of those nights. After D put the kids to bed, M came out of his room once or twice and Z came out of his room 3 or 4 times all within the first 45 minutes. Then once we were in bed, Z came out again a few times including 3:50AM… I remember because that is when I woke up and looked at the clock as D was yelling at Z for coming out of his room AGAIN and waking her up. This morning she didn’t wake up early to work out because of all their antics. That was a bad nights sleep!
Moving Around
Yesterday I did some moving around. I ran 2 miles and walked a half a mile. After work we went outside with the kids and played basketball for a while. While the kids rode their bikes around the hoop cul de sac I kept shooting hoops. The neighbor kids, Brock and Zack where there. Sydney, a little girl from 3 doors down, came out to play too. Most of the evening was spent outside in front of the basketball hoop.
Learning about Linux
For work I’ve been working on a configuration problem for the last few weeks in my spare time. We have Linux hosts that use NIS and PAM to authenticate our ftp and telnet users. For some reason local authentication works fine but NIS user authentication fails. We have other hosts setup the same way and with the same settings in all the key files (I think). I’ve been surfing the web and learning about how PAM is supposed to simplify UNIX authentication. I find all the cryptic configuration files to be not so simple. I guess it is good overall that I get a little more comfortable on Linux/UNIX systems and this is definitely helping that cause.
What do you think of Store?
James Robertson is asking people what they think of Store on his blog in this post. Regardless of what you think about Store, you have to like the fact that they are asking the community what they think about it.
My personal opinion is that Store is pretty good for remote work (much better than Envy). I’ve used Monticello and it seems pretty good too. I agree with other replies that Parcels in VW are behind the times. I’m leaning towards Monticello since it works so well for Squeak and would bring two Smalltalks closer together. It would be very cool to continue to have things like Seaside and Monticello bring different Smalltalk dialects closer together.
Another Run
Yesterday I went for another, well supported, lunchtime jog. This time I went a little farther than before. I walked 0.5 miles and ran 1.75 miles. Man, I’ve put on several pounds since I hurt my back a month ago. Since then I’ve had the groin issues and then the ulcer issues. Laying around, eating milkshakes and not exercising has really cost me a few pounds. I think I’ve gained 5 pounds. I’m almost back up to 170. I guess the antibiotics must be working since I’m able to run again (even if it is well supported). I would not have tried to run a couple weeks ago so I guess things are getting better. I’m planning on running again today. Wish me luck!
Short Run
I went for a short run yesterday at lunch time. I wore jockeys, a jock strap and spandex and was able to run for 1.5 miles + .5 walking. It has been weeks since I ran last so it was harder than it should have been. I was sore at night but I still only took 2 Tylenol yesterday. I really want to get back to working out again. I think I might try again today.
