Ticky Tack

Posted in family by monty on April 30, 2007

When my boys were younger and still learning to talk they used to call my our cat a ticky tack. They of course were trying to say kitty cat but ticky tack managed to stick for quite a while. The other day when D was putting the kids to bed, they boys were petting the cat in the hallway. She told them that they used to call the cat a ticky tack. Z called her a ticky tack for the rest of the night and it took me back just a couple years to when he was a baby and M was still a toddler. They were so sweet (not that they aren’t still). Good memories.

Spring Is Here

Posted in entertainment, family, other by monty on April 29, 2007

Today was a beautiful Sunday. D and the kids went to her parents house while I stayed home to watch the Lakers/Phoenix game (what a great wife). The Lakers lost but I got a good workout in during the game. After the game, I went and got gas for the mower and mowed the yard. I have a full evening planned still: pack the orders, clean up the kitchen, take a shower, blog some, nothing too exciting. It is very peaceful around here tonight.

I finally got my phone bill from when my parents were in Nicaragua and I had to make a ton of calls to Nicaragua and do three way conferencing with my mom and grandpa. My grandpa was in the hospital while my parents were out of town. The phone bill wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be (I got disconnected 3 times on every call).

The sun is setting and the last rays of light are still shining into my office’s south facing window. Looks like spring is here.

StS – Man I Wish I Was Going!

Posted in Smalltalk by monty on April 29, 2007

I was just reading over all of the sessions being offered at this week’s Smalltalk Solutions. Man I wish I was going. That Ruby session sounds fun (I would like to learn more about Ruby). This year, I think every single session is appealing to me but unfortunately this year I’m not attending :( Go Smalltalk! I hope all attendees have a great time! Please publish those notes and trip reports so we can read all about it.

Kiss The Girls

Posted in entertainment by monty on April 29, 2007

Ok, so it’s an old movie but it was on TV yesterday and I watched it again. Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman are the main characters – a girl who is abducted (along with several others but manages to break away) and a DC detective who is looking into the disappearance of his niece. It was suspenseful and exciting even though I’d seen it before (back in 1997 when it was released). I was entertained.

Here is a relatively new Smalltalk website called Smalltalk Central. It is kind-of blog like and they say it is written entirely in Smalltalk.

Chuck E. Cheese vs. Computer Time

Posted in family by monty on April 28, 2007

D took M to Chuck E. Cheese today for a birthday party (some kid in his preschool class). Z stayed home with me and got to play on the computer. M was pretty excited to go to Chuck E. Cheese’s but I think Z was more excited to play on the computer. He’s sitting next to me right now, playing games on the little Einstein’s website. Right now he’s playing some game that plays sounds and he has to pick the instrument that makes those sounds. He kept asking mom when they were going to leave so he could start playing on the computer. He has a hard time controlling the mouse because his hands are very small and he is left handed (it’s set up for right hand mousing). He can move it with his left hand but the buttons are reversed. I should see if I can swap them or get a smaller kid mouse or something.

Go Golden State!

Posted in entertainment by monty on April 28, 2007

I’m a Lakers fan and luckily they have managed to win one game agaist the Suns. But I am also excited to see scrappy teams like Denver, Chicago and Golden State beating much better teams like San Antonio, Miami and Dallas. I was up late watching Golden State blow out Dallas. It was such a fun game. Super fast but the Warriors were also playing very scrappy defense and the Mavs just couldn’t seem to score or play defense. Go Golden State!
